Sergey Podvyaznikov is a doctor of medical sciences, professor, chief editor of research and practice reviewed journal "Head and neck tumors," a member of the editorial board of "Journal of Clinical Oncology" (Russian edition), Vice-President of the Russian Society of head and neck tumors.
Sergey Podvyaznikov was born in 1957. After graduating from 1st MMI n.a. I.M. Sechenov in 1980 he was trained in internship in surgery and worked as a surgeon in CRH Domodedovo, Moscow Region. From 1984 to 1986 he studied in clinical internship at the Department of Oncology in Central Institute for doctors improvement n.a. V.I. Lenin (now RMAPO). Associating himself with oncology, he chose its one of the most difficult areas - head and neck tumors, having an excellent training under the guidance of outstanding national oncologist, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor G.V. Falileev, whose student he is justly considered.
His teaching, research and medical activities as an assistant, assistant professor, and since 1999 a professor are associated with the Department of Oncology of the Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the surgical department of tumors of the upper respiratory and digestive tract in N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center. After 30 years of teaching experience S. Podvyaznikov gained credibility and respect among his colleagues and students of oncologists training courses, showing himself a talented teacher and lecturer.
He performs great diagnostic and treatment work in clinical units of N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center RAMS, hospitals in Moscow and regional oncologic dispensaries in the Russian Federation, having a total knowledge of surgical treatment of patients with head and neck tumors. Podvyaznikov was given treatment course of head and neck tumors in clinics in Bratislava (Czechoslovakia, 1992), Heidelberg and Marburg (Germany, 1994, 2014), Vienna and Innsbruck (Austria, 1998), Pisa (Italy, 2013).
Sergey Podvyaznikov performs a great scientific work. In 1988 he defended his thesis, and in 1998 his doctoral thesis. In 2000 he was awarded the title of Professor in the department of oncology. Under his leadership 1 doctoral dissertation and 3 master's theses were defended.
His research interests extended to the entire spectrum of the chosen specialty.
He’s a member of a specialized council for the defense of doctoral theses in N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center RAMS.
He knows first hand the state of cancer care to patients with head and neck tumors in the Russian Federation, he regularly travels to the regions providing training and methodological assistance to oncologists and specialized medical care to patients. He participated in the organization of specialized units for the treatment of head and neck tumors in Belgorod regional oncologic dispensary and the Republican OD (Republic of Sakha-Yakutia).
Academic mobility and international activities:
S. Podvyaznikov organizes and leads congresses and scientific and practical conferences with international participants on up-to-date issues of diagnostics and treatment of head and neck tumors.
He establishes regular international cooperation between the Department of Oncology of Academy of Postgraduate Education, Department of head and neck tumors of N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center RAMS with the oncology clinic at Karolinska University (Stockholm, Sweden) and Cancer Center (Amsterdam, Netherlands). He’s the author of over 140 scientific publications, 18 educational publications, 12 chapters in 7 monographs and practical guidance on oncology, among which are: Directory "Symptoms and syndromes", Directory of practitioners "Oncology" edited by Professor I. V. Poddubnaya, "Reconstructive surgery for head and neck tumors" under the editorship of Professor E.G. Matyakin, Clinical Guide edited by A.I. Paches "Head and neck tumors." Edited by S.O. Podvyaznikov is published the "Handbook for specialist in head and neck cancer."
Sergey Podvyaznikov using his teaching experience, actively helps the formation of highly qualified specialists. With his active participation were founded “Russian Society for head and neck tumors”, Vice-president of which he is at present day, and research and practice peer-reviewed journal "Head and neck tumors," he is the chief editor of this magazine.
